Oregano is a Lamiaceae (flowering plant) that belongs to the Lamiaceae family. For generations, oil of wild oregano has been used as a pleasant herb and holistic cure. Oregano oil is available as an extract or as an essential oil and the extract is basically a diluted form of oregano oil that is available in liquid or tablet form. This oil can be used in cooking or taken as a supplement.
The oregano leaf is also used to extract oregano essential oil, but it is considerably more strong. Because it is not safe to consume, it is a better choice for aromatherapy. Although there isn’t much study explicitly focused on any of these oils, the studies that do exist appear to be encouraging. For instance, the wild oregano oil antifungal properties seem to make much noise in the market.
The organic oregano oil can be taken by mouth. It’s really strong, so if you have to, drink a glass of water while using it internally. Allow it to work its magic for a minute or two, and the burning sensation will go away. Take 1–4 drops undiluted with water or juice one to three times a day to treat ailments, or apply 1-4 drops under the tongue and let it work for 5–15 seconds before drinking a glass of water or juice. Repeat for as many days as you deem necessary for the treatment of your ailments. Take 1–4 drops once a day with water or juice as a prophylactic measure.
When using for congestion
Place 4-8 drops under your tongue for about a minute if you’re taking it for congestion, then take deep breaths through your mouth and exhale through your nose. Do this 3-4 times a day for as long as your nose is congested, for about a minute or two each time.
Experts recommend taking your first dose in the morning before showering.
Using for Sinus Infection
If you have a severe sinus infection, take the Oregano Oil as directed above, plus add 4-6 drops to a cup of hot water and inhale the vapours through your nose. This will provide you with immediate congestion alleviation.
Using for a Cold or Flu Prevention
Take 1- 2 drops of oregano oil with the dropper and press the oil on the back of your tongue and drink quickly if you are confined in a small workplace with people sneezing and coughing and you start getting that funny feeling in your nose or a sore throat. The oregano oil should be applied directly to your sore throat, where the pathogen is attempting to establish itself. If you don’t enjoy the scorching sensation in your throat, have a glass of water on hand. You will notice a difference if you take oregano oil three times that day.
